Student/Parent Handbook

AHC Partnering for Success Information

Student/Parent Handbook

To open each school year, AHC sends home the Student/Parent Handbook, along with several documents for parents/guardians to review and return. In an effort to streamline information and reduce the amount of paper, AHC will now only print the handbook by request. View or download the document below. Students will still receive the signature page; it is mandatory that the student’s parent/guardian sign the sheet and return it to the school.

This form must be returned by the date indicated on the signature page.

Four other optional documents can be submitted via the following survey links, or parents/guardians may print and return these to AHC, along with the mandatory signature page.

The option to have printed forms is still available by clicking the link below and completing the survey. Please allow 48 business hours for the forms to be available for pick-up.

COVID-19 affected us

The past few months have been challenging for all of us due to COVID-19.  By working together, we can emerge from this stronger and better connected. Africa House is committed to partnering with you to provide the best educational opportunities for our children.

Online Learning

Our remote education provision continues to make a positive contribution in enabling our pupils to learn and progress at home. The information contained within this section provides pupils and their families with clarity of what to expect from remote learning and support from school.

Although a bit different from teaching and learning in school, our remote learning aligns to our curriculum and long term planning. It remains meaningful, ambitious and creative, provided in a style that your child will be familiar with.

There will be a variety of work including videos from teachers, signposting to other sites, live lessons, quizzes, tasks and resources. The subjects being taught to pupils in class will match the subjects being supported with remote learning at home. As ever we encourage pupils to take time to read.

Each pupil is provided with a weekly timetable which provides suggestions and ideas of what learning could take place when. It is important for parents and carers to note that the timetable is a guide to support you and can be adapted to fit in with life at home. We provide individualised remote learning for specific pupils with familiar resources to support.

Africa House College is fully inclusive

Africa House College is fully inclusive and consistently develops traditional values of responsibility, kindness, independence and good manners.

Our caring and engaging environment promotes pupil’s self-esteem and prepares them for the world in which they live. As incremental learners AHC pupils enjoy challenge and opportunity, they do not fear mistakes but see them as a route to learning!

I feel proud and privileged to work Africa House College

As Headteacher of this happy, dynamic school I feel proud and privileged to work in partnership with the pupils and families of the Johannesburg community.

At Africa House College our aim is to provide a stimulating, aspirational safe and secure environment in which children have a voice and are encouraged to participate and contribute towards their own development. We believe that this is best achieved when families take an interest and are involved in their child’s education through supporting what their child does in school. Opportunities for learning are exciting and ambitious, set within real life context.

Through rich learning we develop pupil interest and curiosity promoting imagination and investigation. We know our children and work consistently and flexibly to meet their needs. We provide an inclusive curriculum that inspires and interests encouraging pupils to aim high and succeed in school and beyond. We create a family, community atmosphere where everyone is valued, cared about and respected. We have high standards and expectations both in behaviour and work – we have no doubt that our children can meet these standards.
